Retro Record Wall Decor

Ok...first post. Watch it take me months to get back on and show what I have done. Pictures of reports, projects, and textbooks are not in the least bit amusing, so consider it a favor if it really takes me that long to now get back on here :)

Here is the very first frugal craft I completed when I moved into my house. The project is super easy and only took me about an hour.

What you will need:
  • 9 Records of your choice
  • Fishing line or clear jewelry wire (NOT COLORED)
  • Paper clip
  • Lighter/Lit Candle
  • Silver sharpie/White out
  • Piece of cardboard

How to make it!

  1. First you will want to start by setting out all of your records in a 3x3 pattern as seen in the photo. If you choose to do so, you can make a pattern with colors with the colors on the center of the records. All I did was have the bottom row and right row be all white/off white and the remaining were black/dark labels. In all actuality, I didn't do it intentionally...but I liked it when I figured out I did it :)
  2. Once you have laid out all of your records, place a small dot with your silver sharpie/white out on the areas at which the records intersect. If you do this correctly, there will be no left over dots (which will turn into holes) that will hold no purpose in the end. In other words, you won't need dots on all sides of every record with the exception of the middle one.
  3. After the dots have been added, unfold one end of your paper clip and use the remaining area as your holder. **IT WILL BE HOT DURING THE COMPLETION OF THIS STEP!! MAKE SURE TO LEAVE PLENTY OF ROOM TO HOLD ON TO THE PAPER CLIP** Place the unfolded end over the flame of your lighter or your candle for about 10-20 seconds. You will know when it is hot enough by testing it on one of your records. Place one record on your card board and then, Once the clip is hot, place it on the dots drawn in step 2, push lightly, and if your clip has been heated enough, it will slip right through. Complete this step on all dots.
  4. Once all holes have been put in to your records, connect them using your fishing wire or clear jewelry wire. Make sure to triple and quadruple know them ON THE BACK SIDE of the records. Complete this step on all intersections of the 9 records.
  5. Next is just mounting it on the wall! Measure the distance from the center whole of the top left and top right records, use those measurements to place your nails, place your art work on the wall :) Enjoy!
